Writer’s Reflection 2 January 6, 2010

At the beginning of high school, I was the most nervous about my writing ability. Throughout the first semester, I feel that I have developed and refined my writing skills. I feel confident whenever I turn projects in and even though they may not be perfect on the first draft, by the final they are my masterpieces. One paper I wrote during the semester, Haroun and The Sea of Stories freedom of speech essay, demonstrates my ability to improve upon my writing skills. During the writing process, I stumbled around on many different ideas and I wish I didn’t do this and stayed focused on a single point rather then being so scattered. On the last draft I turned in, I felt an overpowering confidence in the way the paper was written.

Looking back at my first writer’s reflection, I wanted to become a better and more efficient writer throughout my freshman year.  This writing reflection is easier for me to write compared to the first one. My first writing reflection has very little meat or evidence, when compared to this one. I am happy to note that I believe I am well on my way to becoming a better writer. Although I still have plenty of room to sharpen my writing skills, I am pleased to have made progress. Having been given the many opportunities to write in English has really made my writing better. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, this along with helpful corrections and comments from my teacher has made me a better writer.

My first writing assignments can easily be juxtaposed against my latest work.  As I read my first IRJ I wrote I am in awe at how much I have learned since then. This first IRJ, took me a tremendous amount of time and wasn’t even that good. Since then, my understanding of writing has deepened. At the beginning, I didn’t understand why, I was writing mini essays every night for homework, but now I am grateful that I was given a chance to do them.
