Midyear Learning Reflection March 3, 2010

From September to March, I made great improvements in my ability to read while text marking efficiently and the ability to use this knowledge in critical thinking situations. Recently having read the first book in the Bible, Genesis, I saw immediate improvements in my quiz scores and overall grade in the class. Not only did my testing scores increase, but also my understanding of plot and how to identify important parts of the story. In the current book, The Odyssey, I have chosen to text mark in the margins and comment on major events and new characters. I chose this method because it seems to be the best use of time and most of the bulleting in the past I did not use in the final. During the remainder of the year I hope to continue along the path towards success and hopefully get a grade that reflects my hard work.

At the beginning of English I, I dreaded the idea of writing a lot, but now the words come easily because my comfort level with writing has greatly increased. Leading up to the midyear final, I feared the English exam the greatest, but after realized how much I knew about the subject and how easy it made it for me top write about. My group and I spent hours leading up to the exam creating thesis statements, which made the paper even easier to write because even though I did not use all the sentences we made, just meticulously going over the book made my essay better because I understood my topic. Preparation is key, when I write any composition. At the beginning of the year the final seemed impossible, but as I was walking out I knew that I had accomplished my goal for the semester. And now looking forward to the next final I hope that I will be able to feel even better about my paper.

Even though high school is extremely challenging, I enjoy it. I had a lot of expectations for school and how I would be treated, but now I have come into my own and I am comfortable with whom I am, the experience is amazing. Which is really important for me because the more appealing something is, the harder you will work for it. This is true in all aspects of my life, and because I enjoy the experiences school offers, both academic and extra-curricular, I want to go. I hope that this will continue throughout this year, and the rest of high school.
